St Louis Hospital July 24th 1863
Dear Friends at Home. I have commenced what I think will be the last letter home from N Orleans as I think we shal leave before another mail steamer as Cap Jenkins has ben to see the A'gt Gen & he told him as soon as he would make out the list of the men in the Regt he would order them together & send us home they wer at it yesterday I think we shal start next week. the Regt is at St Charles staying in our old quarters. I herd the 22 that Oscar had goun to the Regt. John E is in the W. S. Hospital he came here and spent the afternoon with me yesterday I was glad to see him so well. Mary he told me you had ben to see his wife I was glad to hear it as I think her a fine woman. I had a very sick afternoon yesterday & this morning I had thot I should not be able to write but I had a little custard for dinner I feel so much better I thot I must write a few lines I hope soon to meet you fase to fase in our own quiet home in Conn. should that be denied us I hope to meet you all in Heaven at last. my hand trembles I cannot write much
