In Camp in Miss Dec 20 1862

Dear Sister as your Carroll is not well enough to write to you I will try & write you a few lines to let you know how he is as near as I can he is very sick with the measels broke out on him very thick & the prospects is that he is as sick as he will get for they have been out on him for a right smart while & I think they will soon begin to dry in & he will get better Velera you needent be oneasy about him while I am with him for I will take as good care of him as he can be taken care of here but we had to move yesterday evening we started about sundown & went about two miles it was a right smart after night before we stoped but we are / camped in a very nice place Carroll had to ride in the wagon here I staid with the wagon it was a very uncumfortable ride for him I was afraid it would make the measles go in on him but I dont think it did for for they are out on him very nice yet this morning I wrote you a letter day before yesterday & we got sevral last night from home Carroll got one from Jane & Marion I have wrote one to fathers folks & I thought I would write you one for I know you will want to hear from him for I hope you will do the same for me I hope Carroll will soon be able to write to you for himself but I will keep writing as often as I can well till he gets well

Carroll has'nt taken hardly any medicine yet the Dr give me some whisky yesterday with some little medicin in in it I hope he will get along without taking much medicine

If we can stay here sevral days I think he will soon get well although he is quite sick now he has a bad cough which troubls him a good deal he hasent eat scarcly any for two or three days althoug that is common in measels but we have had plenty of pork & mutton which was very good & I got him some little corn bread & he eat a little of it. as to our news we hear a good deal but none that I will write for it is uncertain about its being so but we are in good heart about getting to come home we are still having very nice weather / I know of nothing more worth writing Oh how I wish Carroll was well so he can write to you for I am a very poor hand to write a letter & I greatly wish we was at home so we could get to see you all & enjoy the company of our dear friends & companions in peace at home I will close write soon to us

I am your Brother Marion
To Velera Harriss
