Dear Brother,
I heard that you was bound to go in the army and would not be persuaded to stay at home so I thought I would give you a word of advise If you will listen. I would like to see you come in our Reg't. there would be but few favor shown you besides it is better to be alone in the army than two or three brothers in one Co. or Reg't.
I have been in the army a long time and have had some experience in such [paper tear] My last wish is that you will go into business at home. It would be much better than going to war.
