Aug Sept 3 1862 Camp Smith
Dear Wife after my best respects to you and children I drop you a few lines to in form you that I am well at present and hope that these few lines may find you and children well I have nothing of importance to write at this there is some sickness in camp but not very much We dont have so much duty to doo now as when James was here Tell Pahs little ones houdy for him Pah will try and come home next week if nothing happins more than I now now but if I dont come dont be oneasy about me I would be glad to hear how you is and children. I feel oneasy about you if you was well I could make my self satisfied about you but I pray that god may help you through safe it is a grate troble on my mind about your situation but may god bless my dear family the gratest tie that bines near my hart on earth My Darling you must not fret about me and make your self satisfied about me god will take care of your darling mine all so I am happy to say that I have found a brother here in camp he is a baptist exorter and we have meeting every nite he is a good man I think
I look for a letter my dear but found none if you get sick doo send Jas to let me now and stay in my place they dont like to take substitutes only in sickness Moris is well and very well satisfied May god bless my Dear wife and children I trust that this letter may find you all well I hope that war may soon be ended and I poor sole may reach home safe to my dear ones and live in peace with you the rest of my days so my prayr rite me word when ever you can I am glad to hear from from bruse or eny one els take good care of your self and children for me may god gide your footsteps steps in the path ways of truth and kep you from all harm Tel anne and Mah houdy for me they must rite Tel Gruber if he wants to boil salt he can come down hear it takes ten gal per qt of salt
