Camp Jeffords Green Pond
January the 2 1863
Dear wife After my best respects to you and children I seat my self once more this side of the grave to drop you a few lines wich will I hope may find you all well as it leaves me of at present I have nothing of importance to rite at this Do take good care of your self and Pahs dear little boys I hope and pray that this war may soon end they had another fite in Tenicee we kill a grate many of the yankeys and took 4000 prisoners and 30 peace of Artilery and 100 wagon loads of things i hope the war may soon end by that they get whip ever so nearly
Dear wife I will come home as soon as I can come they is some 10 or 12 of on furlow now I will try and come as soon as I can
Dear wife take care of your self I cant compose my mind anuff to rite this we had a sermond preach the outher nite here by Revd Hockens from Charleston Baptist he gave ous some tract to read they aint nothing new in camp now Tel Jas Pah will make his shoes soon as he can and send them or bring them one and Mother own to and Anny to you must excuse bad writting My Dear one my hart bleeds with sorrow I must close by putting you in the hands of god I hope that he may comfort you in all your troubles and bring me safe home again is this prayr of your Loving Husband HHHill good night
