Camp Jeffords Green Pond March the 6 1863
Dear wife after my best love to you I seat my self this morning to drop you a few lines wich I trust may find find my dear wife and children all well as it leaves me quite well at this time I have nothing of much importance to rite at this time John Adams is in the guard tent there to stay a while without a chance he curse John Jaques and swore he would kill him and left his picket post they will try him in a few days now you must get James to come down and and see me soon as he can I dont now when I can get off not yet Tel James to bring pepper down for me ithink I will trade the mare will sent you so well and so easy kept fat she is as fat as she can be I dont think Mah aut to charge me that much loot now for grub is worth as much as pepper But we wont fall out about it this time the mare will soon have a coalt and I think i can get 200 dollars for him get Mah to plant the sugar cane for you my dear and I will pay her for it I dont now yet wether iwil get eny one yet or not i will keep trying to do it get Mah to plant as much as possible if I dont get one and iwill engage [?]
I will try and hire Banks boys one of them there is three of them hear iwill give a big price rather than miss getting some one but I dont think iwill care much if i dont get one if i could get some one to stay with you I would be so glad it would satisfied Tel Mah to take care of grub if she taks him when the war and I will give Pepper back for grub eaven so she will be makin a speck after all the the yankeys has not tried ous yet you need not be oneasy about hearing big guns shoot for we will be shootting evry day practising here May god bless you is my prayr for his name sake Take care of your self and children for me my dear I hope the war will soon end I must close rite soon as you can the last letter you rote came in 2 days to me I was so glad to get it may god bless my sweet ones at home tak care of your selves for me itry and come home as soon as i can get off Nothing more at this time I remain your Loving Husband untel Death
