Camp Suber James Island Febr Tuesday
My dear wife this will in form you that I got back safe monday eaving though I was very sick all nite I feel little better this morning. I have pains all threw me and in my side. I hope I wont get sick much My dear dont be oneasy about me I will doo the best I can and take all the care of my self that I can and you must doo the same with your self and little ones I will doo the best I can. James is conscripted only an [?] officer guards and so on it dont mean to go in actual service do try and get rice some way or nother dont go after it your self though /
I hope I will get home soon a gain Tel James to get the lether and send it down soon for me if posible get me a calf skin or 2 and some good sole lether Pretty near all the troops are gone off the Island and going to Georgia and Flouridy there is no talk of our going I dont think we will ever leave this Island tel the war is over eny how My dear dont expose your self eny more than you can help may the Lord be with you all and take care of my dear family Lord help ous make ous to feel that we can do nothing within our selves and stop this war nothing more but I remain your Loving Husband untel Death write soon and often Fare well my sweet ones
