My dear wife I trust that these few lines may reach you in due time and find you and little ones well i am all most well again I still have the hed ache a little but I think it will ware off after a while i hope so eny how. i have nothing worth writting at present times is still very hard yet but i hope it wont last too much longer know now how. My dear you said something about having a rail splitting i think my dear you had better not doo it you had better give 50 dollars for a thousand rails than to have a rail spitting it will take so much for them to eat and if Mah dont plant the new ground you better take the rails from it or they will be burnt
 
My dear wife i have no notion of your having a frollick people would talk about it and it would look too much like you had forgotten me wich i hope you will never doo My dear wife i will try and get off this week to come home to get some lether they are given 48 hour passes now purty plentifully to the Soldiers. Miles dodd and Easterling is 2 of the men that is drawn out uncle William is clear he will stay Capt Smith has resined his resination is gone to the Secretary of War he will leave ous in a few days more. i think we will have a regular blow up when Loring takes command but the Col is going to put in a plea against Loring being Capt i think he will resine. i hope so eny how he is such a grand rascal so deceitfull iwish he was in new york and we would be certain & get rid of him then i hope the Col may get it all rite the Col dont think eny thing of Loring at all hardly nodices him. oh lord end this war soon is my prayr 
 
My dear wife i received a letter from Amanda and May Manden wrote me want if i got sick bad and had to go the Hospital that just to let her know and she would go there and mind me tel i got better or untel you came and said that she and May thot as much of me as eny one in the world you and Mah excepted. i am sure that this is a very kind offer and shows that they are friends to me and you. i  was in town on the day that John Cowl was there but he did i did not have time to get my ougliness taken as i had only a few hours to stay in town but i will try and get it the next time i go over to town. John said that he went over to see dave and tried to make some arrangements about planting me 5 acres of corn if he can buy a horse but he said that he would do all that he can and dave to make me some corn eny how, if i could by a horse he would take care of the horse and plant and work 5 acres of land for me but if i dont get the horse he will do the best he can and tend as much as possible for me i cant get a horse now no chance for it i wish i had never sold the mare fast money aint worth nothing now hardly toating. My dear one tel Jeff Hyatt that i will remember him and to lean on Jesus that he never cast eny off that comes unto him pray to god he will save him My dear wife tel Mah i think she better send James to scoole it will do him more good than to ceep him and let him go in service I dont now where or when he will have to go Dunevant is trying to make arrangements for the boys to join his cavalry i will write to Mah this a long letter my dear one write soon and follow example may the Lord be with my sweet one pray for me.
