My dear Wife this will inform you that i am well and faring very well at present We have had some right smart scurmishing but no one hurt as yet I thing the most of the fighting is over now my dear i hope you will not be oneasy about me iwill take the best care of my self that I can we left Richmond Va and came to petersburg 3 days ago and we are know about 30 miles south of petersburg our hole Brigade. the yanks are still trying to take petersburg but think it is all right it will stand My dear i have not heard from you since the 15th of June. if i new all wer well i would be satisfied i just as leave be hear as eny way els except home My dear dont be oneasy a bout me I will rite every chance i get we are a foot untel our horses get hear we have captured a grate many men horses wagons canons and every thing els. we have some very fine meetings hear. I hope the Lord may bless you you all and keep you from all harm we get plenty to eat coffee sugar and bacon and meat oh how i want to see the end of this war Tel all houdy for me pray for me I remain your Loving Husband untel Death H. the raders all ways keep the rail road cut every way until we cant get the mail threw. my dear the Ladies is uste to seeing the yankeys untel they dont mind it at all My dear if they should come out you must not be excited at all they aint much harm in them. Do my dear take care of your sweet self and little ones oh how pah loves them all My dear as soon as i can get some paper i will rite you all the news I dont like to write with a pencil it is so apt to rub out
