My Dear Wife this will inform you that i am well and doing the same I have nothing much to write at present Every thing is quiett We captured 5 yankey scouts yesterday slipping about We are taken prisnors every day more or less My dear I know you are tired of seeing so meny of my letters they have become like an old cow bell one thing over and over My dear i hope you have herd from me be fore this by James Addison i all so sent a gun by him he was to send it to Allen Willises I all so have a yankey pistol for my little man i will send it the first safe chance i can get you must take care of the gun it loads in the breech just pull that peace that is over the triger up and push the cartridge in ball foamost and shut it back and it will cut off the paper and then put a cap on it and then you can shoot a ball clear to Mahs. Mine dont kill no one except a rogue. James will be proud of his pistol 
 
Pah has not got a nife yet for george his pocketts is all worn out i cant keep a nife but i will get him one as soon as i can and some thing for little Henry too Pah loves it just as well as James and George and Mother too your kind letter came to hand yesterday dated the 28 of July i am looking for a letter every day from you. my dear i cant write much this eavning as i have some mules to schoo so i will be short and people is talking to me so i cant write with eny sence uncle William will be home in a few days more he has gone round with some horses he has never been in but 2 brushes and dodd about the same, but poor Henry has been in it all tel i have killed my poor horse i will never get such a nother one a gain he was a faithfull horse the saddle was on him 65 days in succession he was treatted baddly coming out hear and nothing to eat for so long a time and when we got corn i was drawing ration and they give him too much and it give him the collick and he was sent back to the rear where he got nothing to eat so he has died doo my dear pray for me may the lord bless you all is the prayer of your Loving Husband untel Death To L E Hill S.C.  H.
