My dear Wife this will inform you that i am up a gain but not very well We have had 2 or 3 pretty hard fights in the last 5 days We lost one man killed in our Co Corp Marvin and several out of the 5th We captured some 5000 prisners and some 16 peaces of canon and about 514 horse wagon loads of small arms we will loose a grate meny men more be fore we git the rail road clear this fight was on the Weldon rail road at reams station the ground is covered with ded yank strip stark naked Maj Morgan has lost his foot got shot and the Dr had to cut it off our men is in fine spirits now if we can just whip them off hear now i think peace will soon follow it our men is all most worn out with so much hard fighting But when they hear the yanks fetch a yell it brings all the ded facilities to life and then our men are reddy to meet them eny way we have some 5000 cavalry hear / We have all of general A. P. Hills Corps hear and all the cavalry very near in Va. and Lees force and Boregard too We have won some glorious victories Petersburg stands but the yanks has torn it all up with bums after we whipt them at Reams station grant said he would take Petersburg and lee hear it and he march his hole force threw and met him and drove him back But the men we loss there is very hevey when we buary them that got killed there the place is about 2 acres just covered with graves as close as potatoes beds that fight though some 10 days ago the Lord has been on our side. one of our Brigade of cavalry was ordered in to change the picketts line and did not under stand the order so they just run rite in to them and got cut up very bad Oh i think we will soon have all of them killed and captured we are taken them by thousand. May the Lord be with ous untel we get threw with them the world is covered with blowing flies hear we dont pretend to buary a yank at all Leave him start naked on the ground / the women likes to look at them too I dont think if i was a ladie i would go on the battle field to see such a site I think the war will end after this campaign is over with my dear i dont know what is the reason that i cant hear from you i have not got but one letter from you since the 28 of July and this is the 28 of August 64 I rite evry week and some times twice you must let me know if you get mine regular or not if Dave takes the Charleston paper you will see the hole account of our devision in it on all the S.C. Cavalry in it i wish i could get rite well a gain i have fever yet at nite but slow i went to the Hospital but i could not stand it there i cant sleep at nite i get to studing a bout my little ones and you and the war and as soon as i go to sleep iwill be dreaming about fighting the yanks and getting skeared in my sleep and wak up then sleep is done with me that nite and just on the hard ground in storms or wet bugs or some bad place i wish the war would end i could sleep home if i was there i could sleep / one week i got 6 letters this week one day and i recken that is the last one from you one from gruber one from James one from S W Ackerman one from your Mother one from Mark one from Elisabeth one from Cousin Elisabeth Reeves, that ends the chapter. as reguards spiritual things every thing is as [?] i have not heard a song sung in a month i dont be leave hear i am a way off from the rest with some very wicked men never like never to hear of Christ But my dear i will do the best i can the lord being my helper the letter you wrote said George was sick i am so oneasy about him and cant hear you can send me one pair of pants by W B Hill i have got all on that I have dont send eny thing els nothing more but I remain your Loving Husband untel Death Dunovant is our general now and Butler division though send your letter the same i will let you now when to change it.
