My dear Wife
this will inform you that i am well as common and doing very well My dear Wife i think there is every probability of our Regt comeing back soon to S.C. we will be relieved this winter or fall by the [?] Regt their Col has made application for it and general Dunovant will exchange so as he can put them threw a course of [?] i wish that James could get an exchange to our Co now and he would make a good bargen to doo so i think for it is certin that our Brigade will come back to recruit and they will have to relieve ous My dear i have got a horse by giving my detail and 400 dollars i am to have my own time to pay it in i had made up my mine never to spend a nother dollar for a horse but if we cant get a horse we are to be transfered to Lees army and i can keep a horse in fine order / here i wont have eny thing for it to doo at all only ride when the train mooves off and i think we will be certin to come back this winter to S.C. and if so i will have a horse if you could sell the Rayson cow for 500 or 600$ you mite sell her and i could pay for her rite off but my dear i will make evry thing i can i wish i had give my horse to Lemuck and got in lite artilery but we are a long ways off and i would hate to see our Brigade start back to S.C. and me be transfered to infantry out hear i am going to remain at the forge and i will get 2$ a day extray for my work they say and by being saveing i can pay for the mare after a while i have got a splendid young mare in fine order and i think if i live i will bring her back to S.C. when i come and have a horse to stand me too i think mabe we mite spair the cow if not dont doo it you must not say eny thing to eny one about it untel you rite to me and if you dont like the bargen i can trade the mare off and get my money back but she is a splendid horse / Tumbleston will give his detail and six hundred $ for her but Risher told me he would let me have her for that on as long to pay it in as i wanted to you must write me word all about it i have got a good deal owing me that i will try and rake up that will help me pay a good part of it. doo my dear say just what you think about it and let me now rite off and if you dont like it i will make outher arrangements rite off to suit you i can get 2000$ for the mare but details aint worth much now Dunovant issued an order that eny man could get one that wanted it that would feed 2 horses so it is cheaper to a man to keep 2 than to give one there is lots of fellows that never will get a horse and is going home on it and they will certing be transfered for some of our men has come back all reddy with out a horse and there transfer is gone in all redy My dear we are going to have a general engagement in a few days hear then we will loose lots of / our men too i know but you need not be oneasy about me i will be a good ways off in the rear with my forge and not have eny fighting to doo at all i am got a prime position My dear i hope to hear soon from you and hear every thing you think i better doo dont sell the cow too soon be certin to now what she is worth first be fore you sell her i think i will stand a chance to get home this winter on furlough if not for good iwill try it at eny rate My dear i am in a hurry mules are waitting on me to shoe them dont let the children hurt themselves with shot pistol May the lord help ous and bless you all Tell Mah and all houdy for me i would rite but aint got time to nothing more but I remain your Loving Husband untel Death So fare you well H.
