My Dear Wife this will inform you that I am well and hope this will find you all the same i have nothing new to write at present Every thing is quiet with ous one of our men was wounded on pickett last nite and his horse killed i wish it had of been me got wounded and my horse killed then i would of got a furlough and pay for my horse too. but god dose all things write i never want a wound if i can get home on eny outher terms but I dont know when i ever will get a furlough We have so many men absent with out leafe untel they wont approve a furlough at tall for no one My dear i received a letter from you dated the 5 and one from James too and one from Allen Willis he sais he will see that you never shall suffer for eny thing that he can doo for you and he / would get the rest of the corn for you too. I am glad that he is so willing to help you he says you are looking very well My dear i dont know hardly how you doo look it seems like it has been 2 years sence i have seen you but I hope peace may be made soon on some terms or nother May the lord help ous to make peace soon i dont much care how i can live in eny goverment better than i can in camps there is nothing so hard as a soldiers life let them try it whoo may but thank god i have made up my mind to take it as it comes. My dear i told you some thing about killing a hog it was on the yanks line that we killed it and i thot we mite as well eat it as the enemy My dear write soon May god bless you and little ones yesterday was fast day in our Brigade. we had pray meeting and preaching May god bless you my dear ones so good by your husband indeed H.
