My dear Wife this will inform you that i am well and hope this will find you all well My dear we had a little fight to day the yanks come out on our men and broke down fences at stony creek and captured 200 of our men and nearly all the horses, and burnt the place to the ground. We drove them back My darling we are under orders now to G.A. and i am so glad we will be relieved there by the 123 Regt next spring and go on the coast My dear I have seen lots of hard times hear and a grate many silent tears My dear it is so dark i cant rite We will start in a few days i will get to go threw South Carolina if i dont get home 
 
My dear you must take care of your self and little ones too My horse is all rite I expect i will come round with the horses Tell all houdy for me nothing more Excuse this short letter
