My Dear Wife this will in form you that I am well and hope this will find you all well and in good spirits i have nothing new to write at this time I received your letter yesterday dated the 27 wich was welcomed gladly but sorrow to hear of my poor little James being sick it hurts me so bad to hear of it when i can hear all is well i can make my self satisfied but to hear of eny of my dear ones being sick it hurt me to my hart you want to know how that pain in my brest is it is not well yet but better than it was My dear every thing is quiet now with ous the enemy is fell back 3 miles nearer Petersburg i think they are mooving to some outher point it is supposed to N C but i cant tel where but i hope the war will end soon some way or nother i am so tired of it
My dear i will rite a short letter this time as it is late in the nite and now fires My dear i get your letters unregular i got 1 the 17 one 20 one 22 one 27 and no more yet i dont no the reason for it. Direct one to H. H. Hill Co. C. 5th S.C. Cavalry Butler Brigade ANV and leave out Richmond and mabe i will get it sooner Try one eny how Paper is very hie i paid 2 dollars for 6 sheets to nite My dear i have got a stable built for my horse to stay in but i think we will moove soon we will have to follow the yanks where ever they go if it is to S.C. My dear you must take good care of your sweet self and little ones for me and i will do the best i can May god be with you in all your trubles. Tell Mah and all houdy for me Tel Caty i am looking for her letter and Anne and one from James but cant get one Direct them plain rite often I remain your loving Husband untel Death do ous part May god ever be with you all and end this war soon is my prayer so Fare you well H. H. Hill
