Der brother I again attempt to wright you a fiew lines I halve no nuse to wright you onley to let you know that I halve recieved no letter from you this weeke I would like for you to wright as offin as once a weeke whether you recieve myan or not. I wright to you once a week and will continue as longe as I halve any friends you may depend that I am giting very tiard of depending on friends for help ther is some little flattering hops of and exchange with us I recieved a letter from F. M. Browning to day he stated that the helth of the Com was very good William Rodgers was better and that he weighed 150 lbs. All of the 30th that are hear are well this leaves me enjoying good helth I hope these fiew lines will find you and you famuley well Thomas Bell To Cornelius Bell /
 
                        Der Father & Mother I may never be permited to see you again but I halve a hope off seeing you the same as when I last saw you I may be away from yore presants some time I hear now nuse and by that reson I can not tell how longe this war will last but I looke and hope & pray for the future that time may come that I can returne to you in peace and with oner
 
I request you to do all that you can to git Cornelius & John to wright to me once a week a piece you dont now how much pleasure it is to me to heare from you all & Henry as sick as he is and hear no ofiner than I halve doe I offin think of him and shed tears Dr Edwards brother died a day or two ago at springfield Ill Dr Edwards is my bed mate sence I halve bin sick I cant eat meat I halve got me a little bucket I git 1½ lbs of butter a week from the sutler for 20ct a lb what I spend a week a mounts to about 60ct in Dixie above what I would draw it wood cost me $2.00 a week I am well I give my best respects to you boath
