As to day is the last mail that I have to open and the last chance of franking I think best to write to you I thought of waiting untill you wrote me but I have concluded to wright this letter and direct it where you said for me to. I have nothing of importance to wright to you at this time we are as well as common Except bad coals. there have bin one death since you lift Gordins child. Judge Isaacs was murdered in holly Springs in three or four days after you left by a man by the name of Westbrooks, they have him iron down in holly Springs Jail. and about the same time H. Bussey was shot in memphis by Albert G. Moon who made his escape. Bussey is yet alive and mending a little and it is thought he will get well but I dont think so I suppose he was shot without a cause he laid in memphis three weeks But he is removed out home. an other still worse the day we went to memphis old man James found an old man about 67 years old murderd between Bawlly Youngs and Basses about ½ mile north of the roade. if you can recollect when you was here old young had taken a horse under exicution of Short Bill Gibson well sir Bill stalled the horse from the old man 10 miles east of Jackson by the name of Wm Goodwin. the old man followed him they met here and Bill invited the old man home with him to his mothers. his mother said he Bill came there about one hour in the knight between 10 and 12 oclock the same knight he came up here he was nie on the way by Kim & George haris & Bartlet James who asked him if the old man was at his mothers. he said / no he had gone to memphis to buy groceries they left here about ½ hour by sun together. the horse has bin proven away. Bill is lodged in Raleigh Jail his trial will come on the in coming week it is though by all that heard the testimony that will be hung serten.

I have sold that except 2 or 3 barrels for mysilf I sold to wright for $225 cash in hand. from all accounts Gen. Harrison is still gaining ground very fast one of the Democrats strongest props have given way Amos Kendall Post Master General has resigned Armestrong is spoken as his successer. McMillen got the appointment of Post Master here and will take charge tomorrow of 1st day of June on the 7th of this month there was a horrican, wind at Natchez which blowed down the whole town, 4 steam boats between 50 & 100 flat boats with all there crews the lives lost is about 4 hundred loss of property is estimated at 4 millions of Dollars the mississippi River has bin overflowing every thing but is falling again flour is down to 3.50 per barrell bacon 8 to 10 cent sugar 7cts Coffee 15 cents, all others in perportion—Nothing more at present But remain your true friend and well wisher
