Mr Peter Adams
Sir I have bin waiting to receive a letter from you but it apeared like you did not intend to wright to me thomas Adams has Recd three letters from Colier but he said nothing much about you only that you ware all well I have never Recd a scrach of a pen from you since the few lines you sent by W. S. Adams last fall I intended on wrighting by Colier and told him so but he went off without letting me know anything about it I can inform you that we have all made settlement with Roden for our land and lots I have settled for yours and taken a quit claim your part come to one hundred and seventy three dollars I have rented your place for this year for $75.00 due 1st November Mrs floyd takes 10 acres of the field at $3.00 per acre G. W. Beloate takes the houses and remainder of the field which is about 7 or 7½ acres at $45.00 Both notes secured by Doct Bass. the claim on old man Mackey would have bin a bad one if Roden had not of taken it as cash I was going to push the old man but found out that he had made over all his property to John his son and I could not have made anything out of him if I did do it. I collected all the balance without sooing I have acted for you as tho I was acting for myself Colier said he would assist me in paying Roden for your land and would not do so I have no doubt but that you / expected John W. Fowler would settle for your land but Colier said fowler would not do anything with it without being well paid for his trouble he has never said anything to me about it since you left I have thought the reason that you did not wright to me was that you intended on coming out spring to settle for your land I also thought if I could settle for it and get you word before you started you would not come it would cost you 30 or 40 dollars to come and go we have all settled up with Roden & he is going to dismiss the suit I have written three letters all alike for fear you should not get word you need not take out but one of them if they should all come safe to the office and I want you to wright to me as soon as you get one of these letters and let me know whether I have acted right for you or not & if I should have the quit claim deed recorded in Raleigh for you Mr Barbee wishes to hear from his brother if you know anything of him the people are all in very good health about here you have $20.00 dollars coming to you yet from me besides this years rent I have nothing more to wright at present But remain your true friend and well wisher &c              Samuel T. Bufford
