William C. Adams to Henry Adams, 14 November 1859
San Lucas November 14th 1859
To Henry Adams I write these lines to you to inform you that I have sold a lot of Beeves to Edward Gallagar and I wish you to have them gathered up & ready to deliver over to him on his arrival there he will be a long there in four or five days from the date of this letter
Gather all you can find
News has reached here that the Mexicans have taken Brownsville and reduced it to ashes and that they had killed Tobin and six or eight of his men & that eight hundred armed Mexicans were marching on Corpos christa the soldiers will be all taken from the uper posts and sent down there The Indians are stealing some down here we have not lost any yet horses yet. They (the Indians) run Jef Banns the other day and come very near getting his scalp On seeing the Indians he broke to run and struck his gun against a tree & broke it off at the breech Jones being / off a short distance from him in the brush he called to Jones and Jones answered and the Indians left him Miss Betty Childres says if the Indians get you she will follow them to the north pole
We are all well and getting a along as usual It is so cold or I would write more though nothin very perticular I will start to morrow or next day to Eastern Texas I think
Look out for the Indians the country appears to be full of the redskins Dave & John speak of taking their horses off East in a few days &c
W. C. Adams
P.S. dont put yourself to much trouble untell some of them comes up there to see the Beeves for they may not take them dont let them have any without they take 25 or 30 head They appear to be very perticular
