Mary A. Adams to Brother, 25 August 186X
Castroville August 25th

Dear Brother
At last I have found time and summoned courage to write to you. I know you must be anxious to hear from us being detained so long that you cannot come to see us yet I cant give you much satisfaction for I cant speak of "her" my poor Sister. the baby is well a sweet little girl she is I wish so much you could see her. we hear so many reports about you that makes me feel right bad I know there are mean and undermining people that are trying to put you down and I believe some are acting from selfish motives probably some of your officers are taking a part

I cannot believe and hope not that you are guilty of the charges they accuse you of treason or perjury we feel an interest in your wellfare the ties of relationship are closer bound than ever and we would not have to do any thing that would reflect on this little babe or yourself for the whole country. I am a weak woman and not capable of advising but if I were in your place I would do my duty as I had sworn to do and keep my place and let them do their worst you will have friends, no / doubt some of them would like to get your place but if I were you I would not resign to save their necks. that "whisky bloat" Captain of you's has kept his promise nicely. he told me when I saw him that he would send you down as soon as he went up, but I see he has no honor or heart whisky's burnt it out. Mr Adams is in San Antonio when he come down in a week or two we will take the baby out to see you if you are at Fort Clark now I must close

Your Sister
