Dear Sir
I recd this morning yrs of the 5th and I find that Gov Clarke has sent word to Capt Pyron and has done the same (through Col H. E. McCulloch) to Capt Nelsen desiring them to make room for Lieut Adams & his company. the Gov expresses much interest in this business, but I really believe that he has put the matter beyond his control by having appointed too many men before he saw McCulloch. He gave way to a great pressure of importunity by men present in Austin. He can't appoint more enrolling officers; and he hopes sincerely that Col Henry E McCulloch will provide for your brother. McCulloch went this morning (by his home) to San Antonio, and when he gets there (say in 5 or 6 days or less) I want you to call on him at once and communicate with him & tell him what I have here said is coming from the Gov

Respectfully &c
S A Maverick
