To inquire if Battery of Light Artillery at Fort Brown is complete (i.e.) has it guns, caissons, harness, ammunition, or what is defective or deficient—To report at once.

To tell Col Ford that I will call at once upon the Govm't. for more troops to send to the Rio Grande—also will man the Battery at Fort Brown—also will put it in working order with Horses;
To tell me the best point to put it with 3 companies of Infantry—Will Ringgold Barracks do?
To report by Express what troops at Fort Brown are willing to muster into the Service of the C.S.A.

To muster into service Benavides Company for service on lower Rio Grande. Independent Company to cooperate with Battery of Light Artillery
