John R. Baylor to William C. Adams, 25 August 1861
Head Quarters Fort Bliss
August 25th 1861

Capt W. C. Adams

Sir
You will at once, on the receipt of these orders, return and garrison Fort Davis until further orders. I learn that Indians are very numerous in the vicinity of that Post; and it is necessary to afford some protection to the Post and road. Concentrate your whole company there except the guard left at your Post.
