August 31st1861
To the Hon. Post Master General
of the Confederate States of America
The undersigned would respectfully represent that Fort Lancaster is one of the permanent frontier posts on the mail route from San Antonio to El Paso and is now garesoned with one Company C.S.A. Troop—that the mail is carried past this post each way once everry week and that there is no post office at this post and non nearer than Camp Stocton ninety miles west or Fort Clark one hundred & seventy miles east, and that we are compelled to send and receive our mail matter by Special Express at a great inconvenience and expence. we would therefore ask that a post office be established at this post and M. G. Happex be appointed post master
we remain
very Resp.
Yours
Capt W. C. Adams
