Capt Adams

Dear Sir
I send you by express some documents which must be forwarded by stage or express immediately. All is bustle & confusion here & above. It is certain that 2600 men will move against us on or before the 1st Nov & Col Baylor has determined to fall back even to Ft Davis if necessary untill he forms a junction with the advance detachments of Gen Sibley's Brigade. You will see at once the great importance of forwarding the documents without delay.

When we left Ft Davis we left our house in disorder & everything strewn around expecting to be back in a few days. I understand that you occupy the house. I hope you have my goods & chatells stored away & taken care of as many of them are of value to us.

I wish you were here to assist us but have no orders to that effect.

Respectfully yours      James Walker
                                  Capt Co D 2nd Regt M.R.
