Theophilus Herrick
Theophilus Herrick was born on October 9, 1787, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Daniel Herrick and Ruth Averill. He served as a private in Russell’s Massachusetts Militia Artillery during the War of 1812. He married Dorothy Bray in Gloucester on September 12, 1813, and they had at least seven children: Isaac, born around 1814; Ruth, born around 1816; Samuel, born around 1820; Gardner, born around 1822; Edward, born around 1825; Theophilus, born around 1830; and Nancy, born around 1832. Herrick worked as a farmer and trader, and he owned $1,500 of real estate in 1850. A decade later, he owned $3,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property. He died in Gloucester on November 29, 1863.
