Thomas B. Young was born around 1845. By the early 1860s, he was probably living in Ohio. He enlisted in the Union army on February 29, 1864, and he mustered in as a private in Company H of the 1st Ohio Cavalry. The regiment took part in the Atlanta campaign. In the summer of 1865, he was charged with intoxication, “disgraceful” conduct, and the sexual assault of two African American women. He mustered out on September 13, 1865.
He returned to Ohio after the war. He applied for a federal pension in October 1886 and eventually received one. He died in Mount Orab, Ohio, on April 11, 1914.
