My Dear Son
With great pleasure I am again seated at the old writing desk to pen a few lines to you to let you know that we are all well as common I received a letter from you last night which gave me much joy for two reasons. one was to hear that you was alive and well, for I had feared that you had started for home and some accident had happened to you on your way, for I had not heard from you in two weeks, and I thought you would be discharged soon after the review and I looked for you every day last week with great anxiety to see you, but you sayd your papers was made out wrong, so you will have to wate with patience till you get your discharge. you said you thought you might be on your way in two or three days for New York, and that is the second reason why I was glad to get your letter for the papers say that the New York troops are all agoing to be sent near their homes to be mustered out and most likely / you will be sent to New York to be mustered out, and I hope it will not be long either but when you get started for home you had better keep your eyes peeled for robbers, for they say that some have been treated with a sort of liquor that will put them to sleep and then rob them. So you see there is a good many ways to rob the soldiers of their money but you must look out for your self that you dont loose your life, for Ira I think more of that than I do of your money or all the money that the world can afford, dont you. But then I think you will have no trouble. Eph come home all right without any trouble and a number of others. Ira I shall look for you every hour untill you get home if the Lord is willing to spare our lives untill we meet again and I hope and trust he will
