Cyrus F. Rich to Harriet E. Rich, 20 October 1862

Camp near Hagerstown
My Dear Hattie.
I was taken severly sick at Sat noon & have been a great sufferer since, but am a little better I hope. Was attacked with cruzing pains in the head & spine—strong symptoms of fever, but to night (Monday) my head feels better but am suffering great pain in bowels. I have just moved from camp to a farm house—just out—and am in hopes of getting some nursing & rise of the cold ground & bleak winds. Our Brigade moved out on a cruise at midnight last to be gone two or three days but left tents—sick & new recruits behind as it is expected they will return. I am too weak to write more. Have recd but one letter from you the 1st
Your own dear
Cyrus
