Harriet E. Rich to Cyrus F. Rich, undated
Friday night—
Dear Cyrus,
I got so engaged in my work, that I forgot the mail went out at 11 o'clock till it was too late to send it a letter by mail, so I concluded to put it in the valise. There is nothing specially new here. Mrs Whitford called in to day, said not a word about her teeth nor did I. Stephen Potter asked me if you left an order for him on Mr Whitford said you spoke of doing so. I found out where Len Coon got his news—Major French told Mr Stiles that the Adjutants place was / vacant & that he should use his infuence in your favor.
The children is are all well as usual, I staid alone last night. Mat slept with Eliza, Left—I was not afraid. keep up your spirits as well as you can, come home tomorrow night if you can. I am shall look for you anxiously—the baby is sleepy & cross—so I must bid you good night
Your affectionate wife
Hattie—
