Above is Mrs Strongs receipt for ten dollars. This morning I showed my water to Dr Stevens & he said there was no use in my taking medc here or to expect to follow the Army on foot. This is in keeping with what I told you some time ago as my own conviction in the matter. And if I do not get the position I had in view or one with its advantages, I shall be oblige to give up. I am fearful that tenting out will bring on this new trouble of the head again. Sat night after I was taken sick I went to the /

I have told you about the men of this Reg I will not say more now, only most of our men I hope will take better care of themselves. Tell Mat that Manfred is well & looking well. Mr Carpenter well & wants you to tell his wife but thinks he is 12 or 15# lighter than when he left Alexandria. Al Pluments—tell Dr—is well. In fact all of the men from our part of the town are well except Wm Richards & Joseph Green & they are able to be around camp & down to see me. I am told that Ham White has arrived /
 
I was told some two weeks ago that another man had been appointed Adjutant of this Regt therefore you see my nose is out of joint in that direction. I have been all day writing this—a little at a time. I have not recd any letters from any one from home since I left.

You can form some idea how bad my head & brain suffered when I tell you I got no sleep for five days & nights & morphine only helped to make me more wakeful. (Red) hot hicks were / the only relief I could get & those failed after fourth day. The doctors tell me there is no use in my doctoring here to get better of my kidney difficulty.
