Dear Sister Hattie
I sit down to write you a fiew lines to let you know how I am getting along I am not very well just now but I hope to be better in a fiew days the Regiment has gone on to Springfield the orders was for all that was not able to pack there knapsacks to remaine at Rolla there was about one hundred remained here Springfield is about one hundred and twenty from here I new it was of no use for me to start at all we are stoping here in the barracks I have heard from the regiment since it started a great many give out on the road I tell you we have bin used prety ruff since we cam in to Missouri its a hard looking country at best the land is rolling and covered with a scruby growth of timber
their was a regiment of soulders came here this morning
I want you to write as often as you can
I will write agane in a day or two
