it i with plesure that I take my pen to inform you that I am well I hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same I thought that you would write to me but I find my self mistaken and as it is not very plesant here to day I thought I would write a you a few lines and let you know that I was well and to here from you Rudolph got a letter from you and I dont know whither he answered it or not
it is raining here to day and it is not very plesant we went to see a man shot this fornoon they hav been in the habit of hanging 2 or 3 evry Friday / lately and to day they shot one for a change our men disert now as bad as the Johneys these Subs and I am just hardharted enough to like to see them pull hemp and hav no pity for them we are getting the hardest winter that we ever got since I was in old vergin it rains or snows all the time her and our Regiment is right in a mud hole as usle we hav got 6 Companys in the Regiment now and we hav got 80 men in our part of your old Company in ours Seth Hinman has got a commish and Rudolph is Sergent and I am 1st Sergent that is a good thing this winter I can lay back in my tent and hav my good times I reseaved a box from home last night and I can live for a while Eaf you ought to be here now and see the Regiment now and you would never want to belong to the old 64th agen this is a disgrace to the old / 64th well enough of this Eaf I want you should write me all the news about your place and tell me if you ever see David Satterlee if you see him pleas tell him to write well I suppose your having good times to home and if I live untill the 22 day of march I will be with you having good times I hope it is raining just as hard as it can pour and you know what a rain storm in Verginia is and my shanty leeks like hell well I must stop for my hous is all a float
