Emory Morris to Sophia J. Morris, 11 August 1862
Fairfax Seminary Aug 11th 1862

Dear Sister Sophia
I have just recd another of your kind affectionate and heartily welcomed letters which finds me about as usual. I am very glad indeed to hear once more that you and the rest of the folks are usually well. My hand trembles so that it is difficult for me to write but as you are used to my scribbling perhaps you can make out the most of my meaning I have no news in particular, you get the news there before we get it here. The weather is very warm here and has been for some time past. we have had no rain for several days. it is the dryest that it has been this / summer fruit is ripening very fast. Peaches are getting ripe so you may suppose that I live pretty well at present. the blackberries are as thick as I ever saw them but I have no chance to dry any so I only pick enough to eat as I go along. I also get a few peaches occasionally I have mad a few peach preserves.

When I am lucky enough to get a little sugar from the cook room I live quite well. I wish you could have some of the peaches. they are so plenty here that I am afraid that they will be a great many wasted

I will now say a few words about the girls in answer to what you write and then close. I have rec'd no answer from Addie nor Allie yet, yet I am not troubled about it. I should be glad to hear from them but if they do not choose to answer my letters they can let it / alone, but they will write I guess as soon as they get a little time I am glad that they are all having good times. You must tend to your knitting but do not be in a hurry and break your yarn. Well I guess that this nonsense will do for this time so I must wind up. I must write a sheet to Father and perhaps one to Mother. You must not look for me to come home be not surprised if you hear from me in the field near Richmond the next time I write Give my best respects to all of the girls and boys also to all enquiring friends Please answer soon and oblige me
