My Deare cousin
your most welcom and interesting letter dated June the 7 came to hand to day whitch gave me mutch sattifaction to here from you and to heare that you was well and all the rest of the neighbors was enjoying good health. I have no nuse of importence to comunicate to you at this time onley we is in camp too miles of petersburge we started down to City Point last Saturday and we marched till 11 O clock that night and stoped till daylight next morning and we went five miles below to a fort on the river fort Pomerton to take the guns and ammunition out of the fort we had to start back about 11 o clock Sunday and came back to our camp and I can tell you it was durty times we got back some time before night / I wold like to see you all and stay with you a while Mr Russel is with us at this time and has ben for too weeks or more But he is a going to start back in a few dayes we all hate for him to  leave for my part I no I do But we cant expect to ceep him all the time But I think he ought to stay with us the bigest part of the time for we haven got the chance that the rest of you have got at home I liked to forgot to tell you how skillets is a geting a long he is doing very well and Mr John A thay both is doing well as you cold expect I persect he wold like to see you all. tell cousin Daniel that I wold answerd his letter onley I had just wrote to you the day before tell uncle Nill and Aunt Margret and all the famly howdy for me tell father Mother and sister that I am well and all uncle Dugals folkes nothing more only write soon give my love to all my friends and accept a portion for your self H M McDonald
