My Dear cousin
I seat myself this morning in answer to your letter I was glad to heare from you and to heare that you all was well and enjoying good health I have no nuse of importence to comunicate to you at this time onley we have stayed in camp at this plase most one weak that is a strang thing for us to do we hardley ever stayed in one plase more then 4 or 5 dayes at a time Lieut Mason Ray is a going to start home this evening on a furlow Capt Blue got to the compney yesterday morning he brough us som things from home he brought in som concripts in to the compney I tell you we can do very well without them But we have to take some of them long as thay have to go to some compney I think the yong men is geting scears a bout in moore county /
we came to Weldon some three weaks ago we stayed around Garysburg and we went to Rockey Mount last weak and stayed thear some 4 or 5 dayes and came back to Weldon and then to Garysburg Garysburg is some too miles from Weldon I cant tell how long we will stay heare I wold be glad if I was at your plase this morning to healp you drink sider and eat aples and peaches the yankes will never get the Rail Rode thay tryes to get it some times very hard but haven got it yeat thay come upt to Rockey Mount some time ago and burnt the bridg and a larg factery and a warehous and the depot and several outher things I wold be glad if this ware wold stop so we all cold get to go home But we will have to stay in as long as the ware last. But I am in hopes it wont last long for it has ben going along for most 3 years. So I will bring my letter to a close by saying I Remaine youre cousin till death H M McDonald
