My Deare cousin
I received your most welcom letter bearing date of the 19 of Nov which was read with grate pleasur and I am truley glad to heare from you and to heare you all was well and enjoying good health. This leaves me and cousin D.L. and all the compney well. I am very sorry to heare of McInnis said that [faded] of of the [faded] got killed and wounded and mising I am very sorry to heare tell of Mr N Proctor being mising for he was a very kind fellow and Dave Moore of the compney you must not greave about him for he will come up good and i hope if not there is just as good fish in the sea as [faded] come out of it But he was a very nise yong man
Well cousin S.J. theare is no hope of me geting marrid soon for it wont pay to get marrid these times I dont think for thay wount let but one man go home out of 100 hundred [faded] at the Regt I will never get to go home for theare is [paper fold, faded] to go out of our compney Before the next [faded] But I dont believe you to [faded] say you dont know when you [faded] you had better ask me when you will But I have my hops of geting to go to a wedding and I think all the good girls is going to do [faded] from all around I dont hardley ever see a paper if I do it is [faded] /
Well but if I did go to the scotch trap thay did not get us but if that wold take me out of this war I wold be very glad to be caught But have [ faded] I dont mean to be caught But I wold like to be theare this evening I have nothing more to write to you at this time that will draw your attention [paper fold] to write to you But [?] said that you heard that we had went to Kinston But it is a mistak and I do hope we will never go there agane Before we did fear bad anuf eney how and if we wold go theare we wold fear grat deal worse. I guess you have seen Capt Blue he went home and Daniel McRay and [?] has gone home on 15 days furlow But it [faded] day started. [paper fold, faded] the Bord have not met [faded] tell the girls to get reddy the [faded] thay will take it on them But I think he will get off great. W[faded] very comfortable know in camp [faded] have got [?] houses and theare is a chanc to day to [faded] that we have got in our street we is doing very [faded] this time if thay [paper fold] Virginia or to Texas for all we [faded] staying in camp hear theare is some pore solders take [?] the weather. we had to take it last winter but I do dread next sumer and winter well cousin Sarah I will bring my bad writen letter to a close by asking you to write more if you please and give me all the news I Remain your cousin till death H.
