Dear Miss I find
my self consuming the presant moments in writing you a few lines in anseer to your very kind letter which came to hand a long time a go and was glad to here from you that you was well this leaves me in tolerable good health I have been verry sick for the last two or three weeks I ought to have anseered your letter long a go but I was not able to rite I recd a letter from my father the other day and I could not rite to him till the other day I have no news of any portance to communicate to you at presant I have not heard any particulars from Richmond Va since Sunday and the news was then that they was a going to stop fiting for four days to burry their dead they say that they was a bout five thousand men kild on our side and the yankes a bout the same number but they made the yankes retreat and they still hold there positions I heard to day that Colonel Singletary was kild at Tarboro he had a small brush with the yankes and they kild the colonel and a bout twenty five of his men I heard that Mr John McMillen had seen a way and went up to moor county to get shut of comeing / to the war and I want you girls to run him from there and I think he will have to go then Cousin Sarah I would tell you moor fun in two hours than you here in a week we have a goodeal of fun in camp sometimes but I have not had much for the last two weeks for I have been very unwell but I am improveing slowly they is a good many sick in our company W W Fry and Hugh moor is not expected to live John McDonald and John A Patterson is also sick Robt Smith and John Neill McInnis is very low D. A. Thompson got a discharge and started home to day his farther came after him yesterday and they started home this morning and I was glad to see him leave looks so bad I am a fraid that he will give out be fore he will get home I heard the other day that D F Mc got home and I am in hope that he is at home I wants you to rite to me as soon as you gets this and let me no for certain whither it is so or not and if he is at home tell him to rite to me and tell me all the news and fun I wants you to rite to me and tell me all the news fun far and near I recd a letter from brother DJP from Wilmington an he said that they was a bringing in the wounded in there every day well I must bring my badly ritten and uninterresting letter to a close by asking you to excuse me for not writing to you sooner give my love to al inquireing friends and except the same your self your friend NAP
