Dear friend your kind and welcome letter came to hand in due time. I would have writen before now but I have been so busily engaged that I had not time. this leaves me in good health and I hope it will find you in good health. I have nothing of much importance to write We learned from a tilligraphic dispatch that General Beaurgard has gained a most glorious victory at Corinth Mis. puting the enemy to a perfect rout. / Also Genl. Jackson gained a most complete victory over the enemy in va. putting the enemy to such flight that they left all their dead on the field you will see the whole particulars in a few days—
 
the company is in tolerable good health—We are now stationed at Kinston N.C. in a bear old field without any shade at all. we can't tell how long we may stay here. I must close excuse my short letter for the present—write soon direct to Kinston N.C. care cpt Dowd
