George R. Gear to Jerusha Gear and Mary Gear, 18 April 1864
Athens, April 18 1864
In Hospital.

Dear Mother and Sister:
Knowing how anxious you must be to hear from me I will try to write you a word or two. I have been very sick, but am much better now, although very weak. I am under the care of a splendid physician, am situated very comfortably. Don't worry. I am safe in Gods hands. He has blest this sickness to me, and enabled me to bear it patiently.

I cannot write much, am writing lying on my back. I want to hear from home often. Yesterday I took a good look at your pictures, and it seemed almost as though you and Jerusha and Hiram were right before me.

Everything is sunshine and melody without to-day; and I feel it in my heart.

My love to all

Your aff. Son and Brother,
George
