George R. Gear to Jerusha A. Ewart, 21 April 1864
Athens, Ala. April 21 1864
In Hospital

Dear Sister:
This morning I will write you a few words. I am slowly progressing, and hope in a few days to be up again. I think I improve a little every day. I have had the pneumonia.

I wish I could receive my letters from the Regiment. I hear that they are in excitement all the time at Decatur on account of the rebs. Perhaps some one will come up and bring my letters before many days. At any rate I will live in hope.

I am well taken care of here, and am contented.

You may as well direct your next to the Regiment as I / will probably be there before then

Trust in God and don't worry.

Your aff. Brother
George.

My love to Eddie and Fannie
