Helen Maria Lee (maiden name: Amory) was born in August 1812 in Rhode Island to Thomas Amory and Elizabeth Bowen. Her father died in 1823. She eventually moved to Massachusetts, and she married William Raymond Lee III there on July 7, 1842. They had at least three children: Elizabeth, born around 1843; Arthur, born around 1844; and Robert, born around 1846. In 1850, they were living in her mother’s household in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and her husband was working in the railroad industry. By 1860, they owned $20,000 of real estate and $10,000 of personal property. Her husband served in the Union army from July 1861 until December 1862. They settled in Boston, Massachusetts, after the war, and Helen died there on April 15, 1893.
