Thomas Holden Angell was born on August 26, 1832, in Rhode Island. He married Patience Appleby around 1853, and they had at least six children: Walter, born around 1854; Abby, born around 1856; John, born around 1858; Lillie, born around 1863; Sidney, born around 1867; and Alice, born around 1860. They lived in North Providence, Rhode Island, and he worked as a farmer and manufacturer. By 1860, he owned $7,000 of real estate and $400 of personal property. A decade later, he owned $4,000 of real estate and $3,000 of personal property. By the early 1880s, he was serving as a town clerk. His wife died on October 6, 1901. He retired around 1908, and he died in North Providence on November 11, 1913, “as the result of an injury sustained a year ago when he sliped [sic] and fell on the ice.”
