William E. Burnet
William E. Burnet was born around 1833 in Texas to David and Hannah Burnet. His father was a lawyer and politician who served as interim president of Texas in 1836. The family lived in Harris County, Texas, and by 1850, he was studying law. By the late 1850s, he was serving as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army. He resigned in July 1861 and he joined the Confederate army. He eventually rose to the rank of colonel. He died in the Battle of Spanish Fort on March 31, 1865.
