Dabney Waverly Lewis
Dabney Waverly Lewis was born around 1840. By the early 1860s, he was probably living in Texas.
 
He enlisted in the Confederate army on April 15, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company A of the 2nd Texas Cavalry on May 23. He eventually earned a promotion to corporal. By July 1863, he was serving as a 1st lieutenant and adjutant in the 1st Texas Cavalry (Arizona Brigade). The unit served in Texas and the Indian Territory. On April 19, 1865, a medical board declared him “unfit for present duty in consequence of chronic diarrhea.”
 
He probably settled in Houston, Texas, after the war, and he married Bella Downes on May 4, 1867. He died in Dallas County, Texas, on November 15, 1873.
