Velasco Feby 4 [torn]
W A Menger Esq.
Dear Sir
For some time after I arrived here I labored under a severe attack of illness. I am now just recovering from it and have made my arrangements to pay you by the 20th of the month. I am willing to pay a fair interest for the time. I have been derelict—say 12 prct. Please inform Maj Howard.
In leaving San Antonio I left my saddle at your stable, please to send it to me by
[blank] who will hand you this.
Also in my hurry I forgot to pay a small bill to the barber next your hotel. Will you do me the favor to ask him to send me the amt & I will forward it. Best respects to Mr Klöke
Wishing you much prosperity & success
I remain dear Sir
your obtservt.
