Theodore A. Goff was born around 1843 in New York. In 1850, he was living in Norwalk, Connecticut, with shoemaker Joseph H. Raymond and his family. He grew up and attended school in Norwalk, and by 1860, he was working as a shoemaker’s apprentice.
He enlisted in the Union army on September 12, 1861, and mustered in as a private in Company G of the 5th Connecticut Infantry later that day. He was promoted to corporal on July 1, 1862. The regiment took part in the Second Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the Carolinas campaign. He mustered out in Alexandria, Virginia, on July 19, 1865.
He moved back to New York after the war, and he married Mary Parr there on April 18, 1872. He applied for a federal pension in June 1892 but died on February 19, 1893, before he could receive one.
