Henry V. Hoagland to Marietta Randolph, 31 May 1865
Camp 7th Ill. Inf. Vet. Vols.
Washington D.C. May 31st/65.
My Dear Etta.
This time I shall only write a short note, simply to let you know that I am comming. We start to morrow for Louisville where we expect to receive our pay and then proceed immediately to Springfield to be mustered out. You need not write again for I will not be likely to receive them and the dead letter office here is full enough now without any of your letters in it. We are starting sooner than I expected from here, but we may and I expect we will be some three weeks on the road. transportation will be very hard to get when there are so many demanding it at once, so we will likely have to lay over some. I supose of course we will have to have a review at Springfield and if you can I would like you to be present for I know it will be the grandest scene you ever witnessed. John must be there by all means, it would be food and lodging for him for a week. I have not time to write more, so I must close. hoping to be with you soon, I remain yours most affectionately
In haste, Henry.
