Jersey City March 4th 1864
 
Dear Farther I have h not heard from you sinc I came and do not know what to make of it. Em is writting to you to tell you that uncle is ding he has not been well for four days and is failing vary fast. my time here has been vary sad. Aunty has been sick and del. I think there lot is hard the girls are brocken down with care and uncle feels so bad to think of leaving them all alone. how are you and Ernest. I hope you are well and tell Erny to please write to Anty. farther write her Aunty a cheerful letter. what will become of us all the lord only knows. uncle has suffered every thing and it is so hard to hear him breath. I have just come down from his room and he is in allful pain tell Erny uncle says good by for he will never see him again uncle wants to see you so bad. I have written home to day and now I can hardly see I have just been up to ask uncle what he wanted me to tell you and he says tell you to write. all at home are. I shall / stay here untill all is over for uncle can live but a few days. I shall write again write as soon as you can and send a letter to me. the girls have had a letter from you and I think that you dont care for me. I have not had a vary pleasant time you see for all have been sick I must close for the bell is ringing for supper write soon
