Jersey City March 16th 1864
 
Dear Farther I have written two or three letters to you hopeing to have one from you before uncles death He he this will be his last day here. he has been vary poorly this week and he thinks this will be his last. he would like to see you and Erny before he dies. I have been here nearly six weeks and I think I had better stay untill all is over. I wrote home nearly two weeks ago and told liny that uncle was so low and have never received answer. dont you think that strange. I do not know what to make of it and I have had no answer from you nor erny I dont think that is right. Aunty does not know what to do. she has her troubles vary hard. will you write to her as soon as you can. I do not know what to tell you for I am having a sad time how is erny I was going to write to him and will try and write this week uncle says he has nothing to say he is happy o what trial it will be to the girls farther please to write to and to me the family was well when I heard from home / I do not have but vary little time to write. sunday I will write again. Aunty says she is going to be left alone in the cold world Aunty wants you to kiss erny for her and tell him to remember what uncle says. take good care of him. I must close as Mr reckers is going to take this over to new york good by Dear farther and think of us before you get this uncle will be no more
